What can the Ombud investigate?

The Office of the Ombud receives complaints about the alleged unfair administrative decisions or actions of a public agency, including lack of adequate reasons, unreasonable delay, unfair procedures, and arbitrary procedures. A list of the agencies and organizations that fall under the Ombud's jurisdiction can be found below. If we cannot deal with your complaint, we will do our best to refer you to someone who can. The Ombud has discretion to decide whether complaints will be investigated.  When a complaint is outside the Ombud’s jurisdiction to investigate, the Office provides information and, where appropriate, refers individuals to other complaint mechanisms or possible sources of assistance.

The Ombud can investigate:

  • Government departments
  • Municipalities
  • School Districts
  • District Education Councils
  • Regional health authorities
  • Crown agencies
  • Agencies responsible to the Province
  • Including some commissions and boards as identified under the Ombud Act.
